Brief Description

UL鈥榮 Sports Performance MSc, a QS top 100 sports related programme, offers a powerful blend of research-driven teaching, hands-on lab and field-based learning 九色视频鈥檚 world-class sports science facilities. 

Develop as an insightful and reflective sports performance practitioner through modules covering nutrition, strength and conditioning, video-analysis, biomechanics, team-sports, speed and endurance sports. 

On the master's, you will gain invaluable experience through placements with local and international sports organisations and, uniquely, receive professional accreditation, ensuring you are highly competitive and job ready.   
 
On completion, you will be career ready with the following certifications:  

  • Certified Conditioning Coach (CCC) accreditation 

  • International Society of Performance Analysis in Sports (ISPAS) Video Analysis 

  • International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) 

  • Cardiac First Response (AED) 

During this programme, you will:  

  • Develop a solid understanding of the physiology, psychology and biomechanics behind sports performance for speed, endurance, team and strength sports. 
     
  • Undertake a research project based on the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the programme to investigate a specific area of sports performance. 
     
  • Benefit from a placement to develop your competencies and gain invaluable hands-on experience in a high-performance environment. 
     
  • Gain a professional and accredited strength and conditioning qualification to launch your career in sports performance. 

Key information:  

  • Complete full-time over one year or part-time over two years 

  • Delivered on-campus on Mondays and Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays
    • Part-time year 1 - Monday and Tuesdays
    • Part-time year 2 鈥 Thursday and Fridays 

  • Option to exit after successful completion of the taught modules with a Graduate Diploma 

  • Autumn semester includes a research project tailored to your sports performance practice and career goals 

  • On completion, you will graduate with a Level 9 Master鈥檚 degree in Sports Performance. 

You will learn through a blend of: 

  • Lectures, workshops, and experiential learning 

  • Reflective practice and supervised research 

  • Practice placement 

  • Regular feedback from faculty and peers through group work and assessments 

Full-Time Year 1 

Spring Semester  

  • will introduce you to the history, methods and approaches to qualitative research.   

  • will give you a deep understanding of speed development in athletes, exploring biomechanics, nutrition, and physiology through lectures, lab sessions, and real-world case studies. 

  • will examine how endurance athletes develop and perform, focusing on the impact of biomechanics, nutrition, psychology and physiology, while applying training methodologies in practical settings. 

  • will help you develop video analysis and integrated coaching skills to enhance team sports performance, focusing on motor learning, group dynamics, and integrated physical conditioning. 

  • will help you understand the principles and theories of strength and conditioning practice and their practical applications, covering the topics of Olympic weightlifting, nutrition for elite performance, and the associated ethical issues.  

Summer Semester  

  • Professional Competencies (Problem-Based Learning) (, , ) modules foster multidisciplinary, group-based learning; enabling students to integrate knowledge across disciplines to solve sport science problems.  

  • allows you to time with a dedicated supervisor to prepare for your research dissertation.  

  • CSCS accreditation. 

  • provides you with the chance to experience a real work environment and acquire and develop the skills you need to achieve your career goals. 

Autumn Semester 

  • will involve undertaking an empirical research project that challenges or develops a current concept in sports performance, applying knowledge and skills from previous studies.

Relevant course materials - such as books and journal articles - will be available digitally via the UL Glucksman Library鈥檚 online resources.

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor鈥檚 degree Level 8,) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2). Applicants with a degree in health, sports science, physical education, nutrition, physiotherapy, anatomy or human biology are preferred. 

  • Relevant work experience in sports is an advantage.

  • Please note that this part-time variation of this programme is not available to students who require a study visa for Ireland.

Please note that international study visas are only available to students studying full-time in Ireland. Only the full-time version of this programme qualifies for a study visa.    

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.

I continue to use the practical knowledge to develop scientific-based interventions for teams and individual athletes. My work placement was particularly important. 鈥淚t was an invaluable experience for me as I got to work in a professional rugby organisation in Ireland.鈥
