Brief Description

What role does economics play in shaping the biggest challenges of our time? This micro-credential explores contemporary issues through the lens of applied economics, from inequality and sustainability to fiscal policy and global development.

Designed for professionals with a non-economics background, this 12-week, Level 9 module equips you to critically assess public policy, interpret economic data, and evaluate real-world interventions. It also provides a pathway for learners looking to progress to postgraduate study in economics.

This module is associated with the Economics and Public Policy - Postgraduate Diploma. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.

During this module, you will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our world, though the lenses of applied economics by exploring the rationale for public policy interventions using real-world economic examples.

  • Learn how to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of policy decisions from both micro- and macroeconomic perspectives.

  • Understand the key issues involved in making informed evidence-based policy decisions, based on rigorous economic analysis.

  • Build the skills to evaluate policy impacts and apply economic reasoning in professional roles or postgraduate study in economics.
