Brief Description

This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential introduces the core principles and methods of participatory health research (PHR), helping you design meaningful projects that involve non-academic stakeholders at every stage. 

During the module you’ll build practical skills in participatory learning and action (PLA) methods, research co-design, and collaborative analysis.   

³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô learn how to select the right design for your project, involve partners in planning and data collection, and create ethical, inclusive approaches to knowledge generation.  

Whether you're working with patients, advocacy groups, or community organisations, this module will give you the tools and confidence to conduct research that is collaborative, respectful and impactful.  

This module is associated with the Professional Diploma in Participatory Health Research. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award. 

During this module, you will: 

  • Learn about participatory learning and action (PLA) research methods with a focus on key values and principles
  • Examine examples of PLA in Irish and European research
  • Get training in the use of PLA
  • Pilot PLA to develop insights and facilitation skills for its use in your own work
  • Build confidence in creating inclusive, community-led research   

Key Information

This micro-credential will be delivered online over 12 weeks. 

You will be assessed using continuous skill-based assignments including quizzes and a final written assignment.

  • Timetable provided after registration 

To help you to be successful on this course:  

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in a health-related discipline.
  • If applicants have a lower result or an unrelated qualification, they may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they can provide evidence of 5 or more years of relevant work experience (Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy).
