Brief Description
Understanding how emotional, psychological and social factors affect health is central to person-centred care.
This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential is for nurses and midwives who want to deepen their knowledge of psychosocial care and assessment.
You’ll explore key theories and models, including cognitive, behavioural and strengths-based approaches, and learn how they inform recovery-focused practice.
You’ll also learn the principles behind interventions such as CBT, DBT and family work, along with the role of trauma-informed care, collaborative planning and professional boundaries.
Whether you work in mental health, acute or community care, this module will support your development as a reflective and responsive practitioner.
This module is associated with the Nursing (Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health Care) - MSc. It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) module or as part of a pathway to a larger award.
During this module, you will:
Learn about different models of psychosocial care, including recovery, strengths-based, and cognitive-behavioural approaches
Understand how assessment frameworks are used to explore a person’s mental, emotional and social needs
Explore how outcome measures are chosen and used to support care in mental health settings
Build awareness of ethics, professional boundaries and working in partnership with individuals and families
Key Information
This micro-credential will be delivered in a blended format over 12 weeks.
Assessment will be based on a written case study assignment, which will account for 100% of your final grade.

You must be a registered nurse on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
