This 12-week, Level 9 micro-credential is designed for registered nurses who want to use proven, therapeutic interventions to ensure optimal quality of life for people living with dementia.

This module helps you to build the skills to support the person holistically

At the end of this module, students will be able to: Critically discuss the holistic needs of the person with dementia.  Critically analyse relevant theories, innovations and best practices relating to dementia.  Students develop specialist skills to support people living with dementia and their families to understand the disease progression and associated care pathways. Students will be introduced to a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, strategies and interventions, such as reality orientation, validation, and reminiscence, which can be used to promote communication and understanding, optimal nutrition, sleep, and mobility. Students will be equipped with the skills to address behavioural and psychological aspects of dementia when  supporting people with dementia in reducing distress.   Students will be enabled to recognise the value of family and environment in the care of people with dementia and demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of supporting individuals with dementia in end of life.   hether you work in hospital, residential, day care or home care, you’ll learn how to provide safe, thoughtful and person-centred care across all stages of dementia, including at the end of life.
