In December 2024 the School of Nursing and Midwifery secured substantial funding for the refurbishment of the School’s Clinical Skills Laboratories and the building of a new Simulation Suite. This significant investment reflects the university's recognition of growth plans and commitment to providing state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities for our students and staff. It represents a major step forward in our ability to deliver high-quality clinical education and accommodate our expanding student numbers. The implementation of this exciting development commenced in early 2025 with a planned completion time of late August 2025.

Construction of Simulation Lab, Millstream Building

Construction of Clinical Skills Laboratory, Room HS1-021

Formally rooms HS1-017, HS1-018, HS1-020 and HS1-021 self-directed learning areas, this new lab will be configured like a four-bedded ward. 

Construction of new Self-Directed Learning Area, Room HS1-020 

Formally room HS1-016, this new space will be configured with three to four student stations. Rooms HS1-020 & HS1-021 spaces are linked by a dividing wall enabling the space to become one larger unit if required. The space will be equipped with an easy to use online booking system also.

Upgrading of Storerooms HS1-023 and HS1-026

Two smaller storerooms have been modified to create one larger storeroom by demolishing an adjoining wall. This provides increased storage space and access between labs.

Weekly action-focused team meetings are held to progress and manage both projects and ensure timely completion. The team comprises, school representation, Buildings and Estates representation and a Project Manager.

In addition to Devolved Grant works, the Clinical Skills Laboratories have also had additional works undertaken to improve the teaching environs for staff and students. Counters tops in rooms HS1-022, HS-1023, HS1-026, HS1-031, HS1-032 and HS1035 have been resized at both ends making more floor space available for teaching and learning practices.
