Placement Allocations
- Placement allocations will be published on the Student SharePoint. All programme class groups will also receive an email notification with a direct link to the relevant page.
- Each placement comes with a profile outlining key information relative to your placement and the learning outcomes available, as well as contact details for the site.
Module assessment
- Assessment of competence on practice is an essential component of BSc Nursing & BSc Midwifery programmes. Before beginning a placement, students are provided with a Module Assessment Document. This document outlines the assessment requirements, and students are expected to adhere to the specified guidelines for completion. Students must always keep their Module Assessment Document with them on placement.
Guidance Documents for Practice Placements
- Students are required to consult the Guidance Documents for Practice Placements, available on Student SharePoint, prior to commencing their placement. These documents include information on uniform and dress codes, procedures for reporting absence, th Change to Placement Request form, and other essential resources to support students in practice settings.
Placement Travel Requirements
- All students will be required to travel as part of their practice placements. While the majority of placements are located within the Mid West region, opportunities are not limited to this area and students should be prepared to travel to sites outside the region when necessary.
Evaluation Process for Practice Placements
- All BSc Nursing and BSc Midwifery programmes have formal processes in place to evaluate practice placements. As part of this process, students are required to complete evaluation forms following the completion of each placement. This feedback is essential in maintaining quality and enhancing the placement experience for future students. Details will be provided.
Expenses
- Expenses (travel and accommodation expenses) are processed by your programme SALO (Student Allocations Liaision Officer), not UL Practice Placement Allocations Office. Forms to claim expenses are available on UL Student SharePortal. Please complete and send directly to SALOs.
Accommodation
- A resource is available in the Accommodation folder on the Student Portal. Please note that this will be a database鈥痮nly. The School of Nursing and Midwifery will not be endorsing or quality controlling any of these properties and all contracts will be between the student and landlord. The Practice Placement Allocations Office team will continue to update the database throughout the year. If you have accommodation to recommend, please email nmplacements@ul.ie
