Tag it, Tell us, Tell them is a Transferable Skills Unit (TSU) initiative supporting academic staff in making transferable skills in their modules more visible to students across their modules.

Student feedback consistently shows that lecturers are a key and trusted source of information for students. By explicitly highlighting where and how skills are developed, faculty can help students to recognise their learning and better articulate it beyond the classroom.

Tag it, Tell us, Tell them offers three simple ways to do this, outlined below.

When preparing your course outlines for the Autumn and Spring Semesters, tag the transferable skill content in your modules using one or more of our Transferable Skills icons.

You can download the skills icons from the , which is available to all staff.

Once you have tagged the skills, let us know by sharing your module outline (or the relevant sections) via email to TransferableSkills@ul.ie or by uploading it directly to the .  

This helps the TSU to build a broader picture of how transferable skills are being developed across the faculty. 

Tell students about the transferable skills they are developing in their modules, e.g. critical thinking, communication, problem鈥憇olving or creativity.

To support this, the Transferable Skills Unit, in collaboration with UL colleagues, has developed competency frameworks for our seven priority skills, as a reference for both students and staff.

Embedding Skills in Assessment

Module coordinators may also wish to include a skills鈥慴ased or skills鈥憃riented assessment in a module. Many modules already provide opportunities for students to build skills such as communication and collaboration through existing activities.

Encouraging students to reflect on how their skills have developed is an essential part of skill development. Assessments that enable reflection can also provide students with valuable evidence of their transferable skills and, ultimately, helping students build their ePortfolio and work towards earning digital badges
