Welcome to the School of Allied Health. We are a dynamic and busy School dedicated to furthering the role of Allied Health Professionals in improving health and wellbeing in our community and larger society through research, scholarship, and the education of new entrants to the professions.

The School includes the disciplines of Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Speech and Language Therapy and is based in a purpose-built Health Sciences Building on the North campus of the University. It is large, welcoming, and very research-active, with over 90 staff members across academic, practice education, research, and support roles. We have an excellent track record of high-impact publications and securing research funding from national and international funding bodies, including the Health Research Board, the Irish Research Council and EU funders. We currently collaborate with over 85 international institutions. Our researchers are members of the Health Research Institute, and our research features the involvement of patient and public partners (PPI), interprofessional practice and implementation science, as well as aiming for impact in ageing, mental health, chronic conditions and speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties across the lifespan. We are one of the very few Schools internationally with a research focus on the history and anthropology of the Allied Health Professions.

The School has a large number of postgraduate MSc and PhD students and together with a growing body of postdoctoral and research staff, we offer excellent support for future researchers in the Allied Health Professions.

In the School of Allied health, we place equality, diversity, and social inclusion at the core of the School's identity, research, and academic mission. We are deeply committed to fostering and sustaining a culture of dignity and respect for all, ensuring these principles are embedded in everyday practices and promoted across all activities.
