Engaged Research refers to a wide range of rigorous research approaches and methodologies that share a common interest in collaborative engagement with the community and aim to improve, understand or investigate an issue of public interest or concern. Engaged Research and Scholarship refers to collaborative actions with community as opposed to university actions for them.
UL Engage is credited as a ‘key driver’ of the national Engaged Research policy agenda, promoting engaged research nationally with  and the  as well as internationally through collaboration with the UNESCO  consortium and . Closer to home, the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ boasts a vibrant eco-system of engaged researchers in UL, including the Participatory Health Research (PHR) unit, Centre for Implementation Research CIR@UL, and .
K4C@UL
UL Engage is a member of the UNESCO-sponsored K4C Global Consortium for Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education, providing UL with an international peer network for mentorship and review.
K4C hubs design and conduct educational programs to develop research capacities for the co-creation of knowledge through collective action by practitioners, community-based researchers, community groups and academics.

Engaged Research Design for Sustainability
A bespoke, accredited PhD training module designed to equip early-stage PhD students with the essential skills, knowledge, and tools to address the complex and interconnected challenges posed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a blend of inter-disciplinary learning and place-based experiences, participants will gain a deeper understanding of sustainability, develop critical competencies, and learn how to engage effectively with relevant research stakeholders to create meaningful impact.
Engaged Research in Social Economy (RISE)
aims to build the skills of social economy organisations to partner in projects with research institutes. This will enable more engaged research, a practice that creates more socially impactful projects through collaboration between researchers and communities. UL Engage is proud to partner with The Wheel in developing Engaged Research training and resources for RISE.
