Brief Description

Achieve Black Belt level in Six Sigma and acquire the expertise to deliver measurable improvements across a wide range of industry sectors with UL’s one-year, part-time Professional Diploma in Quality Management Six Sigma. 

This programme focuses on developing advanced skills in Six Sigma methodology and quality science, preparing participants to lead high-impact improvement initiatives across manufacturing and service sectors.  

Over the course of one year, students will gain both the theoretical foundation and practical experience needed to operate at Master Black Belt level 

With a strong emphasis on statistical analysis, problem-solving tools, and real-world project execution, the programme equips professionals to drive measurable quality and process improvements within their organisations. 

Participants who have completed this programme can continue to the in Strategic Quality Management Lean Sigma Systems  

This programme will earn 30 ECTS credits towards a Flexible Masters Pathway, allowing students to combine Postgraduate awards to achieve a Master’s over time. 

During this programme, you will:  

  • Acquire the ability to apply Six Sigma principles to drive improvement with measurable results in your organisation. 

  • Complete a substantial industry-based project delivered in the form of a management report. 

  • Integrate concepts, tools and techniques in your workplace to deliver significant cost savings for the organisation. 

  • Build advanced statistical capabilities to support data-driven quality improvement and decision-making. 

Key Information:  

  • Complete part-time over one year  

  • Delivered online. You may be invited to attend an on-campus orientation day during a Saturday in Semester 1. 

  • Intakes in both Autumn (September) and Spring (January) 

  • Modules taught during autumn and spring or spring and summer semesters  

  • Approx. 12 weeks per semester 

  • Submit in-company project at the end of the final semester  

  • Modules with (M) beside them can be taken as independent micro-credential  

You will learn through a blend of:  

  • Lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities  

  • Reflective practice and guided research  

  • Regular feedback from faculty and peers  

Part-time considerations:  

  • Designed for working professionals  

  • Evening or recorded lectures  

  • Additional prep and group work time  

  • Timetable provided after registration 

Year 1  

Semester 1  

Semester 2 

  • enables students to produce a business standard, industry focused project based on an understanding of the processes involved in Six Sigma Systems. 

  • provides a detailed understanding of the key features of experimental design from theory, through construction, to application. 

Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree ( Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant subject. 

  • You should have at least 3 years of relevant industrial work experience. 

  • If you do not meet the minimum entry requirements an offer of a place may be made in exceptional circumstances.  

  • You need to provide a portfolio of evidence of prior qualifications in quality management together with the application of learning or competence (e.g green/black belt project reports, reflective papers or journals).  

  • Two references from appropriate signatories in your organisation will be accepted as evidence.

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme. 

At UL, we value all kinds of learning and support different ways to qualify through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy. 

NOTE: All students use JMP statistical analysis software in their SixSigma modules. You must be able to install JMP on a computer/laptop and have access to company data sets in order to successfully complete these modules. Please check with your IT department/company that you have the necessary permissions before embarking on this programme.

  • *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.

Please note that international study visas are only available to students studying full-time in Ireland. This programme does not qualify for a study visa. 

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
