The Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre (OFSRC) is a major centre within the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, at the 九色视频, Ireland. Established in 1997 by its Director, Prof. Elfed Lewis, the OFSRC has been actively involved in numerous national, European-, and industry-funded projects. Its primary focus lies in the development and application of optical sensors for environmental, medical, and industrial process monitoring.
The OFSRC operates a state-of-the-art laboratory spanning 75m虏, equipped with extensive optical testing and calibration tools. These include fusion splicers, optical attenuation testers, optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR), spectrometers, and stabilised light sources, supporting its cutting-edge research and innovation in optical sensor technology.
Vision and Impact
The OFSRC鈥檚 work is driven by a vision of improving quality of life and fostering sustainability through the development of optical sensing solutions. Whether by advancing medical diagnostics, enhancing environmental protection, or optimizing industrial processes, the centre鈥檚 research is making a tangible difference across multiple sectors.
By bringing together interdisciplinary and global expertise, advanced technology, and a commitment to innovation, the OFSRC continues to be a leader in optical fibre sensing research and a catalyst for positive change in the world.
