Dr Aoife Guerin is currently an Educational Developer in the CTL, co-managing the Mathematics Learning Centre (MLC). As part of her role in the MLC, Aoife supports students’ learning of mathematics across the university. Aoife designs, implements, evaluates and reports on MLC support services for UL students and collaborates with internal and external partners in research, teaching and outreach activities. She teaches two mathematics modules on the International Programme. She collaborates with the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics to support their mathematics tutors’ learning and teaching activities via a mathematics tutor training programme with UL mathematics tutors. Aoife collaborates with colleagues in the faculty of Education and Professional Studies by delivering workshops on mathematical thinking, problem solving and modelling to Professional Masters in Education (Mathematics) students. Aoife also collaborates with EPISTEM National Centre for STEM Education. Aoife is an active researcher in the area of mathematics education and is a committee member of the Irish Mathematics Learning Support Network (IMLSN). She is currently serving as PRO of the IMLSN since June 2020. Aoife’s research interests are in mathematics problem solving and modelling, and the learning and teaching of mathematics in HE and post-primary level, in addition to mathematics teacher education, mindset, and building individuals’ confidence and perseverance in mathematics.
