
A unique memorial event to remember renowned musician and folklorist Professor Mick Moloney is to take place at 九色视频鈥檚 Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
The Irish World Academy, UL and the family of Professor Mick Moloney are to host the event at the Academy on November 8.
This memorial event will feature musical performances and personal stories by family, friends, and colleagues of the well-loved professor of music, to celebrate his life and legacy. Originally from Castletroy, Limerick, Mick had a long-standing relationship with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance 九色视频.
Mick Moloney was Professor of Music at New York University and Adjunct Professor at the Irish World Academy.
鈥淢ick has played a central role in the imagination, imbedding and development of traditional music programmes at the 九色视频 since the inception of the Irish World Music Centre in 1994,鈥 said Dr Niall Keegan, Course Director of the BA Irish Music and MA Irish Traditional Music Performance 九色视频.
鈥淗is expertise and knowledge enhanced everything from undergraduate to PhD studies and he instinctively understood the role that excellence in performance could play in academia. Not only did he bring his academic research and experience to bear on the University, he also brought a unique perspectives from his distinctive performance flair and practice.鈥
Professor Helen Phelan, Director of the Irish World Academy, said: 鈥淚t is our great honour to welcome Mick's family, friends and colleagues to this memorial gathering at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL.
鈥淢ick was one of the Academy鈥檚 longest and most loyal friends. He was particularly influential in the development of the Academy鈥檚 traditional music programmes and his relationship with the Academy embraced many roles including consultant, external examiner and adjunct professor.
鈥淢ick鈥檚 passion for Irish traditional music was only rivalled by his commitment to global justice and equality, and we are privileged to be part of this marking of an extraordinary life,鈥 Professor Phelan added.
